Why teams book this workshop

When a new manager takes over, the team’s existing communication habits do not automatically adjust. People may still route questions to the old supervisor, avoid raising problems until they become crises, or interpret the new manager’s questions as micromanagement.

This workshop gives the whole team — not just the manager — a shared vocabulary for how they will work together.

Session structure

Hour 1 — Current state: Facilitated discussion about what communication works well today and what creates confusion or delay. Anonymous input cards are used so junior team members can speak freely.

Hour 2 — Norms and expectations: The group agrees on meeting formats, response-time expectations for messages, and how to escalate blockers.

Hour 3 — Feedback practice: Paired exercises in giving and receiving constructive feedback, using situations relevant to your team’s actual work.

Hour 4 — Action plan: The manager and team co-create a one-page communication charter listing three commitments each party makes going forward.

Requirements

  • Group size: 5 to 12 participants (including the manager)
  • A quiet room with chairs arranged for discussion, a whiteboard, and a projector
